PredMix Oral Liquid contains prednisolone sodium phosphate which is broken down to prednisolone after it enters the body.
Prednisolone works by entering inflammatory cells and blocking the inflammatory reaction. It is only able to prevent or reduce symptoms of your condition, it does not cure it.
Prednisolone belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids. It is similar to a hormone called cortisol which is produced naturally by the body. It is not like the steroids which are sometimes used by athletes to build up their bodies.
PredMix Oral Liquid is used to prevent or reduce the symptoms of inflammation (such as swelling, redness, pain, tenderness or itching) in any part of the body.
The most common condition for which PredMix Oral Liquid is prescribed is asthma. In this condition the breathing tubes to the lungs are inflamed. This causes narrowing of the breathing tubes and lots of mucus, leading to cough, wheeze, trouble in breathing and shortness of breath. Sometimes medicines given to make the breathing tubes wider (bronchodilators/ relievers) will be enough to make you better. However, often your doctor will also prescribe PredMix Oral Liquid to reduce the inflammation.
There are other conditions, such as some forms of arthritis, where PredMix Oral Liquid is an important part of treatment, either for short or long periods of time. Other conditions where PredMix Oral Liquid may be used include: severe allergies, skin problems, inflammatory diseases of the bowel, cancer and `auto-immune` diseases.
Your doctor may have prescribed PredMix Oral Liquid for another reason. Ask your doctor if you have any questions about why PredMix Oral Liquid has been prescribed for you.
This medicine is available only with a doctor`s prescription.
There is no evidence that PredMix Oral Liquid is addictive.
